Back O' The Page Stories 7/02 By Scott Coverdale Back at the end of June, we received a call from a woman who reported that she had a roof leak. I asked Doug and Ryan to drop by and check it out. When they got back to the office, they told me that the roof on the back portion of the house was totally shot, and that the rain was passing into the house uncontested. They told me that the client was pretty severely disabled, a widow, and didn't seem to have the resources to deal with the problem. She had contacted the Tucson Urban League, and they had sent her an application to fill out, which they would consider in six months. She was really not looking forward to going through another monsoon season with her desolate roof. In the old days, roofing was CHRPA's specialty, but it has been a long time since we have gotten involved in a major project like that. But after talking about it, we decided that, just this once, we would get back to our roots and replace the roof. I asked if anybody would be interested in starting early, and everybody raised their hands (even Leah, who is famous for not relishing the early morning.) A couple of days later, CHRPA's entire workforce met at the job at 4:30 in the morning. We tore off the roof and put a new one on, doing some repairs to the deck as we went. By 11:30, the sun was high and hot, and we were done. The homeowner swore that it was a miracle and an answer to her fervent prayers. The Team CHRPA went out for a late breakfast or lunch or whatever it was. It was a pretty grimy crew that invaded Rigo's Mexican Restaurant that day....
