| Back O' The Page Stories 6/03 By Scott CoverdaleYesterday, I got a call from a woman living far out West in the county of Pima. She said that she had a bad water leak and could we maybe help her get it fixed. I pored over the dossier of our workforce and selected Espri and Ryan for the job. This morning, they loaded up Big Red and headed for the hinterlands in a cloud of dust. I got a call this afternoon. "I want to talk to whoever is in charge of the home repairs." It didn't sound too promising, but I decided to take the rap. "That's me," I said. "What can I do for you?" She got right to the point. "I wanted to tell you what great people you sent out here to my house today." "I am glad to hear that," I told her sincerely. "I have to agree that they are very good." "They are not just good. They are an answer to prayer. You cannot imagine what my life has been like. It has been four years since these leaks developed, and I am disabled with bursitis and have very little money, so I have not been able to afford a plumber, but I cannot afford to waste the water, either. I have had to keep my water off most of the time, which also meant that my cooler has not worked. My friends tried to fix the plumbing, but it only got worse. Then your people came and fixed the leaks and got my cooler started and everything works again. You cannot imagine what a change this will be in my life!" "We are glad to do it," I told her. "That's what we're here for." "And that young lady sure knew what she was doing. That was amazing to see." I agreed with her that Espri "The Torch" Beauregard is a legend in the making. "You think you just did me a favor," she said, "but you have totally changed my life. My bursitis is aggravated by hauling buckets of water out of my bathtub, and I live in constant pain and stress from these plumbing problems. I cannot thank you enough. You tell those two workers that I appreciate their help more than they can imagine." I told them; wrote them a note, in fact.
