| Back O' The Page Stories, May 2008 By Scott CoverdaleThese are the days of cooler work-cooler start-ups, cooler repairs, cooler replacements. Its sort of tedious work, but our workers make the best of it. We sometimes set up four or five jobs for these crews unless they are into something complicated. Towards the end of the day, if a crew is able to complete all of the jobs that were set up, they might call to ask for another job. So on Monday, Tim called. "Abe and I are all done with our jobs. Do you have another one for us?" I assured Tim that there were plenty more jobs, and that I would set up another one for him and Abe to do before they knocked off for the day. I asked him where they were, and he told me they were near 12th and Valencia, then he hung up somewhat abruptly, and I started looking through files for another job. I found a good one for someone whose cooler had quit working a couple of days earlier. I called Tim back to give him the address. When he answered the phone, he sounded a little strange, like he was in pain. "What's up, Tim?" I asked him. "Why do you sound like that?" "I just fell off the roof," he told me with a groan. "Oh, man, that hurts!" "What!? Tim are you all right? What happened? Is Abe with you?" "I don't know. Anyways, do you have another job for us or not?" That's the quintessential Tim. Wants to get back to work and not dilly-dally around....
